Brownie Cookies

20110527-DSC_3392

First, a little back story. I bragged to someone that I knew the reason why brownies have that nice flaky crust on the top while cakes don't. I said that it's because of the unbeaten egg whites (just stirred in and not beaten) float to the top of the batter and created that nice flaky crust. I should have known better than to brag without any back up of experimental data because that someone actually went and did research on brownie flaky top crust and found this article from The Kitchn.

Swirly Chocolate (Chip) Cookies

So here's a cookie that's all swirly with chocolate swirls. I hope you noticed that label of "misadventure" because these were supposed to be chocolate chip cookies and not these swirly cookies! D:

Leafy Pizza

There've been so many meaty dishes on this site, I wanted to contribute a veggilicious one :P Pizza is one of my, "I'm so tired," dishes. Y'know, one of the meals you could fix with your eyes closed? So I almost never play with the recipe. Tonight, because my exhaustion struck on Friday, I found a mostly covered 2nd crust in my fridge and new "Oh, I need to do pizza again before the crust goes stale."

Magnetic Spice "Rack"

20110531-DSC_3565

Hi everyone! I made a post on my "craft and things" blog on how I put together a magnetic spice collection. It's really pretty and was really fun to make. If you don't already have a spice rack and would like to save on counter space, maybe consider making this for fun.

Fruit Filled Meatballs

So we have meatballs again! Haha. Yes, the Chopping Block still has an obsession with hamburgers and even created a shared document for hamburger ideas, and so I guess now I'm in that ground beef kind of rut too. I happen to have some mangos and pineapples along with some awesome guacamole ingredients, and so this concoction was born. Well, I guess it was also heavily influenced by the fact that mangos & avocados together are the bomb. The Chopping Block always raves to me about how awesome guacamole topped hamburgers are (this is why I have the guacamole ingredients), and so the hamburger journey continues.

Strawberry Bread Puding

I cleaned out my fridge last week, and found that I'd been hoarding bread. I had 3 of these bowls. That's a LOT of bread pudding. I made bread pudding over the holiday season, partially out of curiosity. That one was a different recipe (there are a bazillion) but the basic one is super simple.

Cream Cheese Stuffed Meatballs

Hi friends! Sorry it's been such a long time since I've posted. :( I was talking to the Chopping Block a lot lately about hamburgers. She has an obsession with them, but who can blame her; May is national hamburger month after all. My current obsession (for the last couple of days) has been cream cheese. So with that, I've created the most delicious meatball ever. Seriously. No lie.

Lunch Date Recipes

So I don't really go out to eat much any more. So making food-related dates special means putting a little effort into lunch. Mostly, this meal is comprised of assorted leftovers and arranged to look pretty.

So the recipes of each of the dishes are, starting with the meat:

Terriyaki chicken

1 frozen chicken breast
honey
soy sauce
sake

Nuke the chicken until it starts to cook.
In a skillet, place enough sake and soy sauce to just barely coat the pan. Add a touch of honey, (maybe 1/2 a tablespoon?)
Chop up the chicken into tiny bits, and add to sauce after honey has melted.
Stir chicken until it is evenly cooked and browned.
Then you're done!

Stir Fried Rice Noodles

This dish came about because I had a massive honking bag of rice noodles I picked up because they "looked yummy" but had No Idea what to do with them. Letran told me: "stir fry 'em!" I said "With what seasoning?" "Vegetable oil, soy sauce and sesame oil." Me: "Oh, I got those things!"

So...boil rice noodles, fry them in:
Canola Oil
Soy Sauce
Sesame oil

Vegetables in the rice noodles:
Green onion
Cabbage
Carrot
Mushroom

--add these vegies in while the rice is browning. My bag was super big, and so I had to use my wok for this dish. It made a lot of leftovers, some of which were in this lunch.

The broccoli ringing the noodles was frozen, I warmed it in the microwave and ringed the noodles with them.

Garam Masala Oatmeal Cookies

20110505-DSC_2719

I was researching spices and ran into a recipe for Garam Masala Oatmeal Raisin Cookies on NPR. What do you know? I have just bought some garam masala so I decided to make it. Did you know that garam means heat and masala means spice mix? Well, now you know!

Fried Oyster Mushroom with Seaweed

20110428-DSC_2629

Friend are such great inspirations. Nur mentioned to me that she got an oyster mushroom growing kit and it immediately reminded me of this dish. I learned about this from one of my parents' vegetarian friends. Actually, I didn't learn it the proper way. I came over for dinner, they were making this and somehow I helped them made it. Basically, I stole the recipe. Now you can be a part of my band of recipe thieves and make this, too!
